I captured this image from my bathroom window yesterday, just hours before the snow blew into town for the weekend. Love this image, looks like they are kissing. In reality, there were 8 of them, and they have been nibbling my holly trees away. If they would pose like this more often for me, I might learn to appreciate my "deer sculpted" trees.

Josh wore his 4 wheeling helmet during the driving lesson today. We brought EmmaRae home from the hospital in this car....hope it doesn't take her back, lol. Purchased it in December of '93. That's 16+ years, and it STILL runs like a top. Also, this was yesterday's lesson. The image posted earlier was from today.

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary...

Day 983 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They

dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or

some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I

nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to

disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I

had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly

demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending

comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed

in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear

the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to

the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to

my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my

tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this

again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.

The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to

be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the

guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors

have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.

For now...

We have started a new family tradition. As we have all been very blessed in our lives, we decided to not buy each other gifts, but to donate to a charity instead. We have many charities we support, including Angels of Fairview . We are particularly fond of the Asheville Humane Society. As you may or may not know, what started out as a mother-daughter service project quickly turned into a family event. We spent many Saturdays taking images and hanging out with the animals. We all learned so much about true compassion watching the staff and volunteers work with the animals. So, it was not difficult to figure out after the recent snowstorm what charity we would support. We know of the terrible conditions at the shelter. Add a fallen tree, no power and 10 inches of snow and ice....we were in!
To our family, Merry Christmas!

2 small cans crushed pineapple and juice
1 can blueberry pie filling
1 cup chopped nuts (pecans)
2 cups boiling water
mix together and chill
(work in order)

topping
1 8oz cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar
1 carton sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
mix together and spread on chilled salad

we are so happy to have her home from UNCA's Music in the Mountain's Band Camp! EmmaRae has been there for the last week. yes, we missed her terribly. we only have her for 2 nites and she is off again! ahhhh, what a life!

Ramen Noodle Slaw

love this stuff!

1 cup canola oil (i use evoo)

1/2 cup cider vinegar

1/3 cup sugar

2 seasoning packets from oriental ramen noodles ( i use one, you can always add more if needed!)

mix all of the above and set aside.

1 lb cabbage ( i use precut/pre washed)

1 cup sunflower seeds

1 cup almonds (slivered, roasted)

1 bunch of green onions

2 bags ramen noodles crushed. DO NOT COOK NOODLES!

mix dry ingredients. add dressing just before serving!

Leaky...

leaky is old. very old. i was in college when i brought him home. he was "gently used" then. about 4 years old. he came from the edneyville no kill shelter. an ex-boyfriend and i chosse leaky because he was laid back. when we walked in the cat room, all the other kitties were crazy! hissing and afraid.....not leaky. his name has changed. i don't remember what the shelter named him. we named him wesson. after the gun, smith and wesson (little sneak back into my past, heehhee! i use to enjoy target practice and guns). his name evolved into "leaky". when he purrs, he has a distinct leak in his throat! no kidding. he sounds like he is leaking while purring, crazy, hu? how old is he......? i feel certain, i got him in 1990. remember, he was used. I a thinking around 24 years old! he resides with my dad and his wife, renee. they take excellent care of him. he is pretty hard of hearing and slow.....but eats 3 squares a day and even enjoys the occasional ice cream treat!

i don't want to sound like i am whining. but. omg. my head hurts. my back hurts. my eyes are

bleeding! this book is for the 7 directors of the ccms play. (i did not take the photos).

i was, um, "asked" to do this. "this" is my first digital album. i used software on

mixbook. it was ok. but if i told you how much time i really spent doing this, you would ask, "what were you doing while you did this judith?" i had bout 300 images to sort. that was the hardest part. putting them in some order that made sense. uggg. and now that it is off to the printer, i found a spelling error. great. it is going to 7 teachers. i am doomed!

Back to the 80's!!!

life has been very busy. life is good. these are images from the musical at school that EmmaRae was in, "Back to the 80's". the entire cast rocked this play! special props to the band, AMAZING! what an awesome experience for the kids!

small parent moment here. this is one of the few times, i have looked into the eyes of my daughter and thought, "omg, she looks just like me!" must have been a flashback to my youth, the hair....the make-up, and much to my chagrin, the clothes.

sad story....pretty picture.

don found a bird's nest about 2 weeks ago.

i took photos, of course.

today, i thought i would peek in to check on them.

if i could spin the clock back, i would.

seems i startled the momma as i rounded the corner of the house.

in her "fight or flight" mode, she chose flight.

one teeny, white downey baby bird was tossed to the ground.

horror.

i can't tell you what i did with my camera, i screamed to don....i knew i couldn't touch the

baby. momma would for sure avoid it if it had human scent.

i ran, yes, ran, into the house to get....tongs.

i gently scooped the baby up to put in the nest.

as i climbed onto the ladder, it sank into the yard.....baby fell, again. i shrieked in despair.

it is cold here today. infact, SNOW was falling at 7 am. this tiny weighs less than air creature was having a hellofa morning.

i scooped him again, this time, don holding the ladder for me.

baby safely placed back into nest. only a little extra dirt.

note to self. no more bird nest watching. stick to trees and flowers.

please tell me the momma came back and all is well.......
