sad story....pretty picture.

don found a bird's nest about 2 weeks ago.

i took photos, of course.

today, i thought i would peek in to check on them.

if i could spin the clock back, i would.

seems i startled the momma as i rounded the corner of the house.

in her "fight or flight" mode, she chose flight.

one teeny, white downey baby bird was tossed to the ground.

horror.

i can't tell you what i did with my camera, i screamed to don....i knew i couldn't touch the 

baby. momma would for sure avoid it if it had human scent.

i ran, yes, ran, into the house to get....tongs.

i gently scooped the baby up to put in the nest.

as i climbed onto the ladder, it sank into the yard.....baby fell, again. i shrieked in despair.

it is cold here today. infact, SNOW was falling at 7 am. this tiny weighs less than air creature was having a hellofa morning.

i scooped him again, this time, don holding the ladder for me.

baby safely placed back into nest. only a little extra dirt.

note to self. no more bird nest watching. stick to trees and flowers.

please tell me the momma came back and all is well.......
